72 Pillar

Chapter 8: levels of the demon

I couldn tell if what I was feeling happened to be relief that I wasn one of these monsters or sadness that I didn have an awesome world destroying demon inside of me. The world that Madelyn and her Grandfather was talking about just seemed so grand and amazing that maybe somewhere deep down I wanted to be apart of it. Crazy right?

The old man probably seeing the disappointment on my face spoke up. ”Being a Pillar is not easy young man. It takes commitment and responsibility. It is a life of loneliness, disappointment, and of course loss. Be very careful on what you wish your life to be, because you may get your wish. ” The old man said.

”Do I even want to know what that means? ” I say more than ready to go home.

”It means that you are still in danger. ” The old man claimed.

”What! But you just said… ”

”That you are not a pillar. ” Madelyns grandfather says with his arms crossed.

”But the truth is we are not sure. ” The old man explains.

I look at the old man and then I glance over at Madelyn who like her grandfather stared at me like I stared at the frog I dissected for my 7th grade science project, with a little disgust and at the same time a little bit of interest. Both probably not good for me.

”How could you not be sure? ” I ask a little irritated.

The old man said nothing as he looked me straight in the eyes. It soon got to a point where I began to get embarrassed, damn my shyness.

”Take a look at my granddaughter. ” The old man calmly says.

Upon hearing those words I couldn help but blush, I actually had permission to look at the girl of my dreams, yea I couldn pass that up.

I slowly turn my head towards Madelyn who continued to sit right beside me. ”Ok calm down Ethan, calm down, please don embarrass yourself. ” I thought struggling to keep my cool as my eyes fell on Madelyn.

”Oh my god she is so beautiful… ” I continued to think, my thoughts going wild.

”What do you see? ” The old man asks his voice snapping me out of my romantic trance.

I without wasting any more time begin to focus on Madelyn and just like before I saw it.

”Theres a black mist surrounding her. ” I say, my body shaking just by looking at that darkness.

”You being able to see that mist, is proof that you are not a regular human. ” The old man explains to my terror.

”You seeing it isn the actual problem. ” The old man continues.

”The fact of the matter is that their are only two sorts of beings that have the power to generate such a dark ominous aura. The first being is a demon, the second a pillar. ” The old man says.

”You Mr. Brumfield seem to also be able to generate such an aura. ” The old man says to my surprise.

I quickly take a look all around my body hoping to see the same darkness I saw around Madelyn but no matter where I looked I saw nothing, was the old man really going senile?

”You should stop trying to look for it, only those who have control over the demon inside of them can see its aura. ” Madelyns grandfather laughs.

I would be lying if I said that I wasn irritated from being laughed at by an old man, but I decided to grit my teeth and not let it get to me.

”So what are you trying to say? That I am a demon? ” I ask with a little attitude in my voice.

The room to my displeasure goes quite as once again I found myself being stared at. I really wanted to go home.

The old man turns and looks at his granddaughter. ”Show him. ” He commands.

Madelyn hearing her grandfathers command tilts her head to the side and with her left hand moves her long blond hair away from the left side of her neck.

On her kneck rested a brand, a brand engraved on her flesh, just looking at it gave me the chills.

”What is this? ” I ask.

”This mark is what makes me a pillar. ” Madelyn answers.

”Every pillar has one, somewhere on their bodies, a mark infused into their flesh. ” The old man continues.

”Oh shit… ” I said, knowing where this was going.

”Yes exactly, you Mr. Brumfield do not have a mark any where on your body. We checked when you where sleeping. ” The old man said.

I couldn help but feel violated, did these people who I barely even know really search my body while I was sleeping. Madelyn Looking through ever nook and cranny of my body, yea that was a thought that sent my blood pressure through the roof.

”Mr. Brumfield I want to officially welcome you into the house of Bathin. ” The old man says with a smile.

”That name again. ” I said remembering Madelyn speaking it from before.

”That name… ” Madelyn softly says.

”That name belongs to one of the 72 demons sealed away by Solomon himself. ”

The aura around Madelyn seemed to grow stronger. ”I am the 18 pillar, my demon is the demon of dimensions and travel… ”

”My demon is Bathin. ”
