According to Glaine, the adventures guild was originally an organization formed through the cooperation of various countries, but later on, it broke off from the restrictions of any country to become its own independent organization.

At the guild, there were requests of every rank that people could receive a reward for completing.

Hearing this, Athal brought up a question he had.

「So is there any merit to raising your rank?」

「You can take on more difficult requests, and you should be able to make more money as well.
Other than that… right, honour is a big part of it as well.
Just the fact that someone has a high rank means that they’re likely an amazing person, and they’re likely to receive requests from nobility and royalty as well.
They have many chances to accumulate a lot of money.」

There was one thing that made Athal curious about Glaine’s words.

「So, can requests from nobility and royalty be refused?」

Realizing Athal had brought up a good point, Glaine pointed his finger as he answered.

「Right.
That problem came up several times in the past.
In conclusion, you can refuse them.
There are some people who complain about that, but the president of the adventurers guild called the Grand Guild Master declared that the adventurers guild would leave any country that objected.」

Glaine spoke with an excited expression as if he were giving a speech.
He’d probably heard that story being passed around by guild members at some point.

「It’s a legend being passed around up until this very day.
Neither nobility nor royalty has been strong enough to go against that decision since.」

Glaine boasted proudly, seeming to care more about it than an adventurer.

「I see, then that wouldn’t put the adventurer at too much of a disadvantage.
How about it Caro? Think we should become adventurers?」

「Eh? Y- you’re asking me?」

Having the conversation suddenly directed at her surprised Caro.
She never expected to be asked her thoughts on the matter.

「Yeah.
You see Caro, from society’s point of view you’re my slave, but I think of you as my travelling companion.
So I’d like for you to share your thoughts with me.」

Athal looked into Caro’s bewildered eyes as he spoke to her.
Seeing no falsehood in his eyes, Caro clearly felt that he truly wished to take her thoughts and feelings into consideration.

「I- I don’t know if I’ll be of any use to you, but… I don’t have a bad image of adventurers.
There are certainly rough individuals among them, but I think it’s a splendid occupation.
If you have the strength to fight, it’s the best earning job to have in our current society, I think…」

As she spoke her thoughts, Caro realized that she may have been saying too much and ended her words in a mumble while covering her mouth.
It seemed that she was still unused to sharing her opinion.

「I see… in that case, let’s head over to the adventurers’ guild.
Can you fight Caro?」

「No! Yes!」

Once again being spoken to, Caro scrambled to respond and gave an answer with no discernible meaning.
Her tension reached new heights, causing her back to tense up and her ears to shoot up stiff.

「Um well, which one is it?」

「Ah- that’s, I can fight!」

After being gently asked once again, this time she answered affirmatively.

「Athal-dono, beastmen fundamentally have high physical capabilities.
Therefore as long as she can make use of that, she should be able to fight.
If she follows you around to start with, she will likely become stronger over time.」

Whenever someone defeats a monster in this world, they absorb some of that magic power and get stronger.
Glaine was saying that Caro would likely accumulate experience like that and grow to be able to fight.

「Ah, that’s right isn’t it.」

God had told Athal about the topic like this.
This world had something like the experience points of a game, where defeating monsters would cause one’s abilities, or in other words, their level, to increase.

「Alright, first off we’d better find an inn.
After that let’s preparing equipment for you to fight with Caro.」

After deciding what to do next, Athal immediately stood up.

「Y- you’re leaving already?」

Having expected Athal to stay a bit longer, Glaine half stood up and quickly spoke out.

「Yeah, it’s better to take care of that immediately.
Let’s go Caro.」

With a single nod of her head, Caro too bounced up from her seat.

「Is that so… Ashna, Gill and I all welcome you to come anytime.
Come anytime in you ever have anything troubling you.」

Since that was Glaine’s real motive, Athal frankly nodded his head.

Glaine showed a smile towards Athal’s response before clapping his hands to summon someone.

「Our guests are leaving.
See them off.」

Gill immediately came out.
He was smiling calmly while wearing a butler uniform.

「Please come again, Athal-sama」

Gill said with a bow before he would accompany them to the mansion entrance.

「Well Glaine and Gill.
Thanks for seeing us off.
I’ll come back if something comes up, and I need you to save me.」

「You saved the lives of my daughter and my servant.
I will never be able to return the favour, so rely on me as much as you like.」

Athal had been speaking in half jest, but Glaine seriously took hold of that promise.

「Haha, it’s fine not to worry about it too much.
You paid me, and it’s thanks to you that I could meet Caro.」

Since Athal felt that he had already been remunerated fully, he wanted to avoid acting like a spoiled child.
He pulled Caro’s shoulder towards him and politely declined.

「You saved the lord’s daughter, so that’s not enough, but I suppose that is just how you are Athal-sama.」

Gill suggested to not push the subject too much as not to displease Athal.

「Anyway, first up would be an inn.」

Since they couldn’t stand there forever, Athal decided to look around the city and turned to leave.

「Athal-sama, if you head to the city centre you’ll see a large building.
That is the adventurers’ guild.
There are several inns in the vicinity, so I believe it would be best for you to aim towards the guild for now.」

Gill called out to their backs as they left to give them advice on where they should go.

「Sounds good, thanks.」

Athal turned back once more to give his thanks, before leaving the mansion without turning back.

Caro also faced the two of them and gave a deep bow, before trotting to catch up with Athal.

「Were you alright Caro?」

「Y- yes, it was alright.
I was surprised when we suddenly went to the lord’s mansion, but… Athal-sama, you’re really strong huh.」

It seemed that she had come to the conclusion that Athal was strong from the fact that he was the saviour of the lord’s daughter.
The way she made a fist and smiled was pretty.

「Oh right, I guess you haven’t seen what I can do in a fight outside of your medical treatment.
I’ll tell you about the way I fight while we’re preparing everything.
I’m a bit unique after all.」

「That thing from before right?」

Seeing that pure and innocent smile on her face, Athal couldn’t help but smile too and rub her head.
