After Gu Shao had walked out, he stayed outside the door and did not take off.

He didn’t stay inside the room because the child had grown and he shouldn’t be staying in her room.

He waited until there was no more noises coming from the inside and that he was certain that Gu Xi had fallen back asleep before he shut the door all the way.

At this time, Aunty Mei seemed to have been disturbed as well and came to give a worried look.

“What happened to Xiao Xi, Sir?”

“She had a nightmare,” said Gu Shao.
After a little pause, he added, “Nothing serious.
You don’t need to worry, Aunty Mei.”

Aunty Mei nodded, “Is she asleep? Do you want me to make her some food?”

“She had already gone back to sleep.
You, too, should go and get some rest.”

Aunty Mei sighed and replied honestly, “Children her age naturally crave attention from their mothers.”

“But.” Aunty Mei switched gear and added, “Xiao Xi’s mother didn’t look like a nice person and had a lot of issues.
From what I can tell, I don’t think Xiao Xi had a lot of hopes in her.

“Just give her more attention in the future, Sir.” Having said that, Aunty Mei added something that was not her place to say, “As for the future, if Xiao Xi is to have a new mother, I hope that Sir will take Xiao Xi’s feeling into consideration and it will be someone who will truly care for Xiao Xi.”
