Except it was Xie Yaobai, not Gu Yaobai.

“Do we have guests over today, Grandpa?” Suppressing her slight displeasure, Gu XueEr blinked and asked Old Mr.
Gu with the sincerest look.

“Not guests,” said Old Mr.
Gu frankly.
“This is your Second Uncle’s daughter.

“She had been living with her mother but she is back with us now,” said Old Mr.
Gu.
He had provided the reason why Gu Xi was here now but also skipped over Gu Xi’s situation at the Lin’s for what had happened back in the days.

That was Old Mr.
Gu’s way of protecting Gu Xi.

Gu XueEr was surprised when she heard Old Mr.
Gu’s explanation.
Her second uncle had been singled all these years.
Nobody ever heard about him being married or even in a relationship.
Where did this child come from?

Was she born out of the wedlock? Or some sort of an accident? How would they even know that she was really……

Gu XueEr thought about all those but she quickly put her surprised look aside.

Before Old Mr.
Gu had even had a chance to introduce Gu Xi to her, Gu XueEr had already put on a very affectionate smile at Gu Xi.

“Hi Xixi.
My name is Gu XueEr.
It’s nice to meet you.” Gu XueEr initiated the conversation with Gu Xi.

“We’ve met at school before.
Do you remember?” asked Gu XueEr.
She didn’t try to cover up the fact that the two of them had met before nor did she seem to feel embarrassed about the incident.

“Yes, I do.” Gu Xi nodded.

Gu XueEr’s smiled deepened and carried on to say, “Here I thought you looked familiar the very first time I saw you.
Who would have thought that we are family? What a coincident.”

No wonder Gu YuanChen and Gu Yanxiao were rounding up votes for Gu Xi.
It would appear that the two of them knew about Gu Xi all along.
Gu XueEr thought to herself.

Looking over at Gu Xi, Gu XueEr said, “I am probably a little older than you.
You can call me Sister XueEr.”

Gu Xi nodded again and addressed her as such.

Much like when they’ve met at school previously, Gu XueEr was impeccably friendly.

Gu Xi found something odd though.

It’d seem that Gu XueEr was a part of the Gu family but she had never heard about her from Gu Chenyi and the others.
Even when Gu Shao told her about the Gu’s family members, he only mentioned Big Uncle, Little Uncle, and three boys.

Gu Xi looked over in the living room direction reflexively and noticed that there was one more person in the living room in addition to Gu Shao and Gu Xian.

Gu Shao and Gu Xian sat on one side of the couch and another man in a dark grey suit sat across from the two of them.

The three of them were chatting with each other.

Their expressions looked normal but Gu Xi felt a sense of oddness in the atmosphere.

They were chatting normally as was the topics that they were talking about.
Nevertheless, the way the three of them sat together made it feel less like they were chatting but more like they were talking in codes.

The man looked over at their direction at this time and, seeing Old Mr.
Gu, nodded at Gu Shao and Gu Xian before he stood up and walked over to them.

He stood in front of Old Mr.
Gu and said to him, “Dad.”

He then glanced over at Gu Xi next to Old Mr.
Gu.

His look, for some inexplicable reason, sent a chill down Gu Xi’s spine.

The man looked to be about Gu Shao and Gu Xian’s age.
His features were mellow and his looks meek.
Nevertheless, there was a form of coldness behind his smile.

It was a different kind of cold from Gu Shao’s or the other Gu member’s high and mighty kind of cold when they were not talking – his coldness seemed normal but would send a chill down one’s spine.

“You came,” said Old Mr.
Gu.

“I had to take care of a few minor incidents so I ran a little late.
I brought Dad a few ginsengs from Country A specifically and I had already handed them to Butler Zhou,” said Gu Yaobai.

Old Mr.
Gu nodded.
“I’m glad you were able to have them taken care of.”

Old Mr.
Gu said nothing else besides that.

Gu Xi sneaked a peek over at Old Mr.
Gu and noticed that his very out-of-character kind of loving look was gone.

There weren’t a lot of emotions on Old Mr.
Gu’s face right now.
This seemed to be his normal solemnness.

“Now that you are all here, let’s start eating,” said Old Mr.
Gu.

His tone was fine and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

The others started to move after Old Mr.
Gu had spoken.

Gu Yaobai and Gu XueEr, too, followed Old Mr.
Gu and walked in the direction of the dining room.
