44 Flame Roasting

Lu Yu looked at Song Xiaotian with some surprise.

Never in his wildest dreams did he expect Song Xiaotian to present him with such valuable gifts.
They were not only rare, their prices were exorbitant too.
They were all precious items that one could not even buy from the market regardless of how much money one had.

The most critical part was, all these items were gifted in accordance with Lu Yu’s needs.
In fact, they were all items that met the urgent needs of Lu Yu and his family.

Who would have thought that the Patriarch of the Song family would be so thoughtful?

Lu Yu did not stand on ceremony with Song Xiaotian.
With a grateful smile at him, he graciously accepted the gifts and thanked him sincerely.

“Mr.
Song, thank you so much for your kindness.
I shall gladly accept your generous gifts.”

Song Xiaotian waved his hand nonchalantly and said with a smile, “Don’t mention it.
I had prepared them specially for you in the first place.”

Thereafter, the two men chatted for a short while more.
With so many things that Lu Yu had to settle, and Song Xiaotian, being the Patriarch of the Song family, naturally had many matters to look into, the two did not have much time for idle chit chat.
Before long, Song Xiaotian bade him farewell.

Just when he was about to leave, Song Xiaotian suddenly seemed to recall something and turned back to Lu Yu and said to him in a low voice,

“Before I forget, Mr.
Lu.
Based on what I have gathered so far, you are concurrently the new dojo master in Lunan City, and also the captain of the 4th squadron from the Gamma Military Zone.”

“It’s not convenient for me to say too much, but what I can tell you is, the relationship between the city and the military zone is not as harmonious as it appears on the surface.
I’d advise you to choose one side and stick to them.
Don’t even think about straddling both camps.”

With that, Song Xiaotian gave a faint smile and left with a flourish.

Lu Yu stood rooted to the same spot, unable to comprehend what Song Xiaotian had just told him.

Could it be that there were conflicts between the Military Lord and the City Lord?

Lu Yu, unable to grasp the intricacies of politics, decided to leave the matter until much later since he had so much work to do right before his eyes.

With the manual of the ‘Sky Valley Culinary Method’ detailing hard-to-find cooking methods, Lu Yu no longer needed to hire a head chef.
He wasn’t able to recruit anyone with the incredible ability to cook the meat of the A-class Fearsome Beast, the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth anyway.

After giving some simple instructions on the recruitment exercise for the Central Dojo and the 4th squadron, Lu Yu handed the task over to his staff and then left.

Just as he was about to walk off, a staff from the Central Dojo called out to him.

“Oh yes, Dojo Master Lu.
Do we prioritize recruiting for the dojo first, followed by the recruiting for the 4th squadron? Or do we do it concurrently?”

Lu Yu paused for a while, then said, “Just recruit for both concurrently.
Let them decide which side they wish to join, as long as they have the requisite abilities!”

After giving his instructions, Lu Yu hauled the corpse of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth off with him as he left the premises.

Due to Lu Yu’s reputation, there was a constant stream of people queuing up to sign up.

With such a big crowd, there was of course, no lack of powerful experts in the midst.

With so much competition, the entry level to join the 4th squadron had risen rapidly from any level of the Martial Arts Warrior, to the level of a Grade 7 Martial Arts Warrior at the barest minimum.

As for the Central Dojo, minimum entry requirements was a Grade 6 Martial Arts Warrior.

After one round of recruitment, the base strength of the Central Dojo had already exceeded the other 4 great dojos by leaps and bounds.

Although the dojo was still short of power experts, the existing crop of powerful experts would grow and advance to higher levels.
It was only a matter of time before the Central Dojo’s overall strength superseded the other 4 great dojos.

Meanwhile, Lu Yu hauled the corpse of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth and came to his own room.
He then began reading up on the cooking method.

With his Gluttony Talent, the fastest way for Lu Yu to elevate his abilities was through eating.

The normal way with which other martial arts practitioners train to level up was simply too slow.

Lu Yu flipped open the box containing the ‘Sky Valley Culinary Method’ manual.
There were a few old and yellowed pages inside.
This was the remnant manual of the ‘Sky Valley Culinary Method’.

It was rumored that this ‘Sky Valley Culinary Method’ was an ancient almighty way to train and develop one’s abilities.
Through this method, by way of eating, a practitioner could elevate his skills and attain longevity.

However, this was only hearsay.
Furthermore, the manual before his eyes was incomplete.
Only remnant pages were left.

Nonetheless, Lu Yu opened the manual and began reading.

Due to the fact that the manual was incomplete, the knowledge recorded inside was very limited.
There were only two methods indicated.
One was through Flame Roasting, the other by Spring Water Stewing.

The Spring Water Stewing method was a higher-rank method, and it yielded better results.
However, the resources it required were things that Lu Yu did not have at the moment.
In fact, they were not even available in the whole of Lunan City.

At present, Lu Yu had no way to utilize the Spring Water Stewing method.

Left with no choice, Lu Yu began analyzing the other cooking method.

[Flame Roasting]

Ingredients required: B-class – S-class Fearsome Beasts’ meat, extraordinarily strong flames, oyster sauce…

Effect: When cooking meat of B-class to A-class Fearsome Beasts, it yielded good results.
When cooking meat of S-class Fearsome Beasts, it yielded average results.

Method: …

After Lu Yu finished reading, he had a good understanding of the Flame Roasting method.

In summary, it did not require any special resources.
As long as the requisite class of Fearsome Beasts’ meat was available, together with a fire that had strong enough flames and some regular seasoning and condiments, it was sufficient.

The main challenge was getting a good control of the fire.

However, Lu Yu had already obtained the A-class Red Lotus True Fire and the A-class Red Raging Flames, two types of incredibly strong fire-attribute skills.
Therefore, he had ample understanding on the control of fire.

The challenge of controlling such powerful flames did not pose any problem for Lu Yu at all.

After digesting the details of the Flame Roasting cooking method, Lu Yu immediately sprang into action.

He chopped off a large chunk of meat from the corpse of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth.
It was a whopping 40 to 50 catties in weight.

He activated his Red Lotus Battle Energy and ignited the Red Lotus True Fire.
With the full strength of the fire, he enveloped the entire chunk of Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth meat with the flames.

Just as quickly as the flames enveloped the meat, they were extinguished.

In that instant of extreme high heat, the meat of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth had been completely cooked.
It was even slightly burnt in parts.

With this first step of roasting, the intention was to cook the exterior until well done or even slightly charred but still retain the blood and energy within the meat.
Any further roasting thereafter should be kept to a minimum.

After this, Lu Yu continued with the cooking.

He activated his A-class Red Raging Flames and injected a small amount of health vitality to create low-strength flames.
These flames then engulfed the meat of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth and began the slow roasting.

Lu Yu’s mastery of the flames had already reached the pinnacle.
Every flame and every spark was manipulated very precisely.

In accordance with the steps stated in the Flame Roasting method inside the ‘Sky Valley Culinary Method’ manual, Lu Yu alternately increased and decreased the strength of the flames and continued the slow roasting.

2 hours later, the roasting was finally completed.
Lu Yu withdrew the Red Raging Flames and looked at the platter of Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth meat.

A large chunk of the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth meat sat there.
It was already charred on the outside, with red patches showing through the black parts.
It did not look very appetizing.

Lu Yu, however, was not perturbed at all.

According to the information provided by the Flame Roasting method, in order to preserve the energy within the meat of the Fearsome Beasts as much as possible in order to achieve the best result, the external parts of the meat might be sacrificed.
The insides, however, would be well-preserved.

Lu Yu drew out his Blood Emperor Battle Saber and sliced the meat apart with one swing.

In an instant, the whole room was filled with the fragrant aroma of roast meat.

What was almost completely charred on the outside, the inside was full of tender meat.
The deeper he cut into the Scarlet Shaggy Mammoth meat, the more tender it was.

After an arduous 3-hour roasting method, using exquisite special flames, Lu Yu was able to achieve a 30% cooked interior.
The further outside he cut, the more well cooked the meat was.

It was a piece of meat that presented various levels of doneness, giving rise to myriad taste textures.

The most important thing was, during the whole roasting process, there wasn’t a single ounce of energy lost.
It even unlocked a vast amount of energy from inside.

As the mouth-watering aroma wafted to Lu Yu’s nose, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
He hurriedly cut off a piece of the meat and began devouring it.
