The Full Mommy Goes to Hawaii!

Okay, not really. But the winner of our Flip Ultra video camera giveaway just happens to live in beautiful Hawaii, and after she received her camera she sent us some footage of her neighborhood.

Wow!! Thanks, Vicky, and soak up some sun for those of us shivering in the lower 48.

Flip Mino

Whenever someone wants an opinion on the Flip Ultra or Flip Mino video camera, I quickly say "Buy it!"

I can't say enough about how easy it is to not only use, but take with us. We have a full-sized video recorder, but I rarely use it because it is bigger and has cords and I have to remember to charge it and bring extra tapes.

Since getting the Flip Mino, I have captured so much video of my children that I wouldn't have otherwise. And I have actually shared it with family and friends. The Flip's built in software allows you to quickly edit and share your videos.

Just to shake things up, Flip is now offering designable cameras. Pretty cool, huh?

Lady M and Mayberry have the Flip Ultra, which requires batteries. I have the Flip Mino that charges through your USB, has more buttons, and is even smaller than the Ultra.

Read our reviews here and here. We love the Flip so much we just gave one away--our lucky winner is Vicky D. in Kaneohe, Hawaii (we can't wait to see some gorgeous footage from the South Pacific!).

Grandma even wants this camera for Christmas. I hope Santa answers her letter!

Buy the Flip Mino on Amazon.com and get free shipping.

The Flip Ultra Video Camera

When I upgraded to a dSLR, I sadly lost the quick draw video capturing capabilities of my point and shoot camera. I've tried lugging around our camcorder but with the weight of the camera and flash and hefty toddler combined forced me to choose between video or still shots.

Luckily, the Flip Ultra Video Camera offers the solution for those who want easy video shooting from the hip, but none of the baggage. In addition to its deck of cards sized compactness, it includes software for easy editing. The software offers some simple, no frills movie mix templates and allows you to save video stills. After recording up to 60 minutes, just flip out the USB arm to connect it directly to your computer, eliminating the interiminable wait time of digitizing tapes.

This unpretentious gadget is a great choice for geeks and tech-challenged alike. Priced around $123, it's a relatively affordable way to capture moments like an uncle bothering a kid who just wants to watch Calliou in peace.
