I do what I can to be green, from bringing my own tote bags to the store to recycling everything that is fit for the recycling bin. But one area that I have never thought about before is eyeglass lenses. I just always get the lenses offered by the optician without asking about how environmentally friendly the company is.
Recently I was given the opportunity to fit a pair of my eyeglass frame with Airwear lenses made by Essilor. The bad news was that I needed to send them a pair of frames...when I get new glasses I like to donate my outdated prescription to the Lion's Club. Luckily I found my last pair and sent them in to be updated with my current prescription and the Airwear lenses.
When I received them I did think that they seemed lightweight. I really appreciate that they use less resources in manufacturing and recyclable packaging.
Now that I know that there is a greener option, I will definitely give more thought when I get new glasses.
