I know, I know. Sometimes you have to choose between economical and eco-friendly. But not when it comes to shoes.Payless Shoe Stores has introduced a line of eco-friendly shoes and accessories for women and girls. And guess what...they are all priced at under $30! That's right, Zoe & Zac shoes from Payless are under 30 bucks. Good for the environment and your wallet.
The line of shoes includes wedges, sandals, oxfords, and flats. What makes them eco-friendly? Zoe & Zac shoes are made with: (from their website)
- Organic cotton grown without chemicals and pesticides
- Hemp grown with little or no polluting pesticides
- Jute, which is a glossy and strong plant fiber grown with little or no pesticides and fertilizers
- Recycled rubber
- Glues that are water-based and non-toxic
- Nicke-free hardware is used on eyelets for laces and buckles
- Faux leather and faux suede manufactured with reduced heavy metals
- Elastic from recycled plastic bottles
- Tagua nuts are "vegetable ivory" from the tagua palm tree
Most ballet flats offer little support, so I can't compare them to, say, my Birkenstocks. But as ballet flats go, these are high in cuteness and I really appreciate the effort Payless is making with their Zoe & Zac line. I'll have to try on a pair of their eco-friendly tennies next time I'm in the store.
