SYLVANIA PalPODzzz Chases Away Fears of the Dark

My daughter was a great sleeper for almost two years—until her imagination started to take over our lives.

While being able to imagine super-cool stories and made-up lands is a great tool for creative work, it also makes going to bed a bit dicey. The minute she hit the sheets, she was fussing about monsters, bears and other fantastical creatures.

I can't even talk about her bad dreams. Nightmares, really. Terrifying and vivid episodes that drove her from her warm bed into the dark hallway and then, in between me and my husband.

It has been a very, very long two years.

In order to prevent some of her fears, we sit in her room every night until she drifts off. With a new baby in the house, this method is less and less convenient. We knew we had to train her to sleep on her own again, but how?

The good folks at Parent Bloggers Network offered me a SYLVANIA PalPODzzz portable nightlight in the shape of a ladybug (they also come in a cool rocketship shape), and I jumped at the chance to try this gadget out as part of our sleep-training efforts.

The name is a bit of a mouthful, but don't let that put you off. This adorable "portable" nightlight is everything you could ask for in a weapon against bad dreams.

The one we received is a cute little ladybug flashlight (with a high, white beam) that sits on a glowing green leaf base. Plug the base in, set the ladybug in her leaf, and let her charge.

Voila! Now, you have a nightlight that keeps the dark away. And if your child wakes up in the night, either in fear or because they need to use the potty, they can safely take the flashlight off the base and use it to guide their way in the dark house—or chase away the imaginary bad guys.

My 4-year-old has adopted the SYLVANIA PalPODzzz portable nightlight wholeheartedly. It is part of our bedtime ritual now, as she searches her sheets for her beloved ladybug.

She even uses it to "read" her big book of fairy poems, giving her a chance to settle herself with some happy thoughts before she falls asleep.

Seriously, I get a lot of products for kids. I cannot endorse this one enough. While we are still sitting in her room, her fears have been allayed to the point that we might soon be able to transition to a routine that sees her falling asleep on her own.

That independence can only benefit us both.

If you have a child who is afraid of the dark, or even one who likes to read under the covers, run, don't walk—get yourselves a SYLVANIA PalPODzzz portable nightlight. Thank you, PBN!
