My daughter likes to build big towers and put things together and take them apart. We have not played with any of the K'NEX building sets. When Team Mom offered to let us try out the Kid K'NEX Sesame Street sets, I thought it would be a good introduction. We received the Ernie set (pictured here). The set includes 15 pieces that can be used to build Ernie, who holds his trademark rubber ducky. Aside from building Ernie, you can use the pieces to make other creations. The pamphlet even gives some suggestions.
My daughter had fun playing with just the Ernie set, but I think combining a few different sets or getting one of the larger sets would give more creative options to build as well as more chances to use imagination and role play. For instance, the ultimate set is the 80-piece Cookie Monster and Hooper's Store ($31.99, the most expensive of the sets).
My only real criticism is about the packaging, while I appreciate that the set comes in a storage container, you have to put the pieces in partially assembled so that it will all fit back in. Minor complaint.
The Kid K'NEX kits start at $10.99 and feature the following Sesame Street characters: Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Ernie, Bert, Grover, and Oscar the Grouch.(From the company:)
"Specially designed for children ages two years and older - the youngest audience yet for K'NEX - the new sets are filled with colorful KID K'NEX rods and connectors, as well as all-new KID K'NEX blocks. The blocks, which are compatible with other leading preschool building blocks, provide an easier building experience for young children."
