Stuck On You

I have two products to tell you about today and why I like them. Both are from a company called Stuck on You. (And a giveaway, too!)

Last summer we were at a nearby town's yearly celebration. We were all starting to stake out our spots for the fireworks and a friend of my sister started panicking. Her young son had disappeared. Turns out he decided to go to their van to get something and didn't tell anyone. Once there, he didn't know how to get back.

I think this is every parent's nightmare. Especially parents of small children who may not be able to articulate their own name or parents' names if they are separated from each other.

A couple of weekends ago we went to a local mall for the Read Across America event. It would not have been practical or fun for my almost four-year-old to be in a stroller. In a large crowd it would be too easy for us to get separated. And even though she could tell an adult her name and mine, there would have been no way for us to be reunited quickly.

The solution? I put a Stuck on You Stick With Me wristband on her with her first name and my cell phone number. It was such a relief to me to know that I could be quickly called, should the need arise. The wrist band says "My name is (blank spot to write in)." "If I am lost, please call (blank)." A set of 12 bands is $11.50. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

I remember when I was a new mom after the birth of my first child. I would take her to the park or to the programs at the library. And although I had coworkers and friends with kids, I desperately wanted to connect with women with babies the same age. I wanted to make some mommy friends. There were several women who I talked with and liked, but we always went our separate ways. I felt funny and dorky saying "call me, we'll have a playdate." But there is a simple way to reach out to other moms without fear of "in-your-face, no thank you" rejection.

You can give them your card. If they call, they call.

The Stuck on You Call Me cards are great contact cards for moms. The cool thing is that you choose the color, the icon, and what you want them to say. I chose purple (my favorite) and ladybug (my daughter's nickname) and had my name, e-mail address, and phone number printed on them. Next time I meet a cool mom or my daughter makes a great new friend, I can say "E-mail me" and hand out my card.

The cards are made of durable plastic that will surely withstand being shoved into your diaper bag. A set of 30 cards sells for $15.50.

WIN IT: One lucky Full Mommy reader will win a set of Call Me Cards, compliments of Stuck on You (value $15.50). Call Me Cards are perfect for setting up play dates, "business cards for kids" or promoting mom's part-time business/blog.

To enter, leave a comment here by 11:59 PM (EST), Thursday, March 27, 2008 (anonymous comments with no e-mail are not valid entries). If you've used these, let us know what you think. (This was written by Leeanthro who can be read at Soy is the New Black where she dishes about family, food, foraging, and frivolity. While many of the products she discusses are sold only through boutique or specialty stores, some are widely available at national stores and online.)

I could pretty much follow you around and buy the products you find. I love labels! We already have Mabel's Labels, but these wristbands are very cool.

The cards are made of plastic? You know they were created by a parent. :-) I've wanted to try having some cards like that on hand, but I LOVE that these are more durable.

Meeting other moms reminds me of my dating days...you meet at a public place (like a waiting room or the playground) laugh at something together, make small talk, think this could be "the one" (bestest mom-friend), wonder if the other person likes you too, agonize over whether it would be too forward to suggest getting together for a cup of coffee, say nothing and walk away awkwardly, (kids in tow) frustrated with yourself for the opportunity missed. Or is that only me?

How funny, when I first saw the name of this post...I thought..."I'm out, she's talking about dating." LOL!

Okay, so I do qualify, as I have more than a quiver of children and three of them are still little. I loved the wristband idea, as one of my kiddos has autism.

Thanks for sharing about these great ideas and for this wonderful opportunity. Blessings to you and yours!

The wristbands are awesome! I'm always worried my daughter's going to get lost since it only takes a second for her to bolt off. The cards are great too since I've met moms at the park a few times but havn't had anything available to share my info.

MissyBecker said...

When I was little my Mom would stick one of those "hello my name is" stickets on the inside of my shirt (so people couldn't see it). So that if I got lost I could give my info to an adult.

But that was old school. wristbands are much cooler.

And I love the playdate card idea!
