I was recently asked by team mom to review the Baby Jamz microphone and CD. Baby Jamz is the first ever hip-hop/rhythm inspired toy line for babies, toddlers and preschoolers and was created by Mathew and Solange Knowles, Beyonce's father and sister. The toys are available exclusively at walmart.
Michael liked the microphone. He likes that he can press a button and it plays music. I thought the microphone had a design flaw. The buttons are really, really tiny. Especially considering the fact that the toy is marketed to children18 months and up. No 18 month old can push those tiny buttons. My 3 year old couldn't push those tiny buttons. In order to listen to the songs and for the microphone to amplify, you have to hold both buttons down and he could just not to figure it out and it frustrated him for a few minutes. He generally got over it and just used the microphone to play music, not to amplify. Bigger buttons would easily solve this problem though.
The CD he was less than impressed with. We listened to about 5 minutes of it and he asked me to turn it off. I think the lyrics were just too complicated and he was used to the more traditional versions of the songs. I thought the concept was cute, but the lyrics didn't really need to be changed. They could have just added a hip hop beat under the songs.

Looks fun!
We probably have too many "microphones" for the little guy already, but I'll keep this one in mind.
