Sippy Cup Reinvented

It seems like every time I get on the internet I am warned about a new abbreviation that I need to be concerned about: BPA, PVC, and the list goes on.

I know many parents are looking for sippy cups that are safe for their children.

We've recently switched from plastic sippy cups to stainless steel cups made by Thermos. Did you even know that Thermos makes sippy cups?

Thermos has recently introduced a new line called Foogo. Products include a 7 oz. sippy cup with or without handles (keeps beverages cold for 6 hours), a 12 oz. straw bottle (12 hours), and a 10 oz. food jar (cold 7 hours and hot 5 hours), as well as matching bottle coolers and diaper bags.

We have the sippy cup with handles for the baby, but at 9 months he's not quite adept at getting a cup to his mouth and actually drinking (doesn't he realize he's supposed to be my product tester?). It is a little heavy for tiny hands. But I have to say my daughter loves the straw bottle. At three she is easily able to push the little button and open the top, take a drink, and close the lid. And I really like the 2 bottle cooler. Two of the straw bottles (or FUNtainer bottles or baby bottles) fit perfectly inside and I don't have to worry about using ice packs to keep her milk cold (one less step in the morning makes me a happy mom). Because heaven forbid I forget to bring a cup of milk for her in the car-each way!

The FUNtainer bottles feature characters that your children know and love. The straw assembly is slightly different. And although replacement assemblies are available for the Foogo cups, the FUNtainer cups come with an extra straw assembly.

The only downside, and this is very negligible, is that you can't see how much liquid is left inside. And we did have one major spill, but that was human (i.e., grandma) error because the lid didn't get screwed on.

I can happily say we are not switching back to plastic cups for the children. Even if these are a bit more expensive.

(Just a note: At my local Target, these cups were located at the back of the store with the camping gear and lunch boxes, not in the baby section. They are also widely available online.)

WIN IT: Thermos is giving away TWO great care packages for parents of young children, one in pink and one in blue. The prize includes Foogo products: a sippy cup, straw bottle, food jar, and sporty diaper bag. Each prize is valued at over $60!

To win, simply leave a comment on this post by midnight, Monday, February 18th, indicating whether you would like pink or blue. The winners will be contacted via e-mail.

(This was written by Leeanthro who can be read at Soy is the New Black where she dishes about family, food, foraging, and frivolity. While many of the products she discusses are sold only through boutique or specialty stores, some are widely available at national stores and online.)
