Pssst. Pass it on....

I really wonder how many hours of my life I have wasted standing staring blankly at the rows and rows of mascara offerings at the drug store, or worse, at the cosmetic counter, where I was blindly led into purchasing a tube of something or other that cost my $50.00 with the promise of longer, darker, thicker, all-around-better-lashes.

To think, I didn't have to do that. Damn.

I read Beauty Confidential by Nadine Haobsh cover to cover in one sitting. It's an easy read and full of great tips. Yes, I did tend to gloss over the parts about the fabulous parties and the free hair styling and the closet of cosmetics, because, really, it pains me that there are closets full of unused and fabulous lip glosses sitting somewhere far far away from me.

Since I received my copy of Beauty Confidential from Parent Bloggers Network I'll bet I have doled out advice like a professional more than a handful of times just in everyday conversation with the girls. What perfume do you like-I need a change? Well, I wear Light Blue, but I just got this really great book that has an if you like this, you'll like that perfume section. You should borrow it. If there is anything I like more that knowing what perfumes are hot at the moment is being able to tell someone else about it. It's a small pleasure for this not-too-hip-at-the-moment-sweat-pant-wearing-mom.

I'm still literally jumping for joy over the mascara section because to me, the search for the elusive perfect mascara is worse than the search for a great fitting pair of jeans. You see, the brush has to be just right. You can (I have) spend ALOT or money for mascara that is no better than the $2.99 Maybelline brand on sale at Target. I'm not going to tell you what mascara Haobsh names, but she's totally right and it's worth the price of the book to find out.

If mascara isn't your thing, she highlights hair styles, body cremes, hair powder (hair powder?) how to curl your hair, skin care, blush and lip plumpers. Don't think you need one? You might change your mind after you read what a little thing like that can do for your va va voom.

It's a comprehensive guide that doesn't cajole you into buying anything or believing a bunch of pricey products will change your life, it's one woman sharing what she knows about the beauty industry and how to make the most of what you've got.

It's no secret that I love this book. I'd bet you a tube of Lancome Deficiles that you will too.
